The company uses Medco to fill its mail order prscriptions which is owned by Merck. It seems that the cost the plan itself pays for including the coppay is designed to get a consumer into the caoverage gap or "donut hole" as soon as possible so as to be able to charge the highest possible price for prescription drugs. Example A 90 day supply of Niaspan prescription for 2 1000 mg tablets before bedtime (used to help lower cholesterol and fatty lipids) cost over $600 from Medco plus the monthly premium of $43.60 for UA Health Plan Part D. Zaleplon (Sonata)10mg taken for sleep costs over $250 plus same premium. By adding a 90 day supply of Crestor 40mg (cholesterol and lipids) and a 90 day supply of Toprol 50mg (regulate atrial rhythm of heart)...the gap will be hit in 6 months following start of plan. Then one pays full cost of drugs from Medco. Comparatively, same 90 day supply for Niaspan from Canadian pharmacy which gets same drug , same manufacturer from another country costs $259. The Zaleplon (Sonata 90 day supply from Canadian pharmacy...costs $27.00 Resolution: Make sure Medco is not the dispensing company for durgs as part of any Plan D prescription coverage and comapre total costs to what you can get from Canadian pharmacies...American pharms provide the worst drug price offerings to Americans. It's almost like rape. Neither Republicans or Democrats in Congress or senate seem to want to control it as their campaigns are often funded by lobbiests from Big Pharma

I've used this plan for 3 years and am very satisfied. I use their mail order for a three months supply of maintainance prescriptions and they even remind me when I need to get a refill. I've only had to pay full price at a drug store for a prescription that couldn't be replaced by a generic. Not a mail order.

We signed my mom up the beginning of January and she got her card a couple of weeks later. Today, 2-1-06, her plan was to start. I went to the drugstore and I had no problem getting her medication at the cost the plan stated. So far so good. I do know we could have been able to get her a lower premium but considering she had no drug coverage before we're happy she'll be saving some money. I will, probably the next time she can change plans, look for a drug plan with a cheaper premium but overall, the plan is as advertised as far as I can tell.
