Humana mail order (unlike other mail order programs) provides not enough time for processing and mailing to assure the patient does not run out. Humana states that it takes 3-5 days for processing (my experience has been that it takes more like 10 days for processing) and then an additional 5-7 days for shipping, but they will only accept and begin processing a refill order on the date that the prescription expires (other plans permit you to send in an order 7-10 days ahead to allot for processing and shipping). This means that there is NO way you could obtain a refill in time to assure that you aren't out of medication. If you raise this issue with them, all they will say is "sorry for the inconvenience" and we're processing it. You can ask for the prescription to be transferred to a local pharmacy... but you're going to lose the benefit of the mail order cost and refills after that will be complicated by the amount you received locally, further complicating their "processing time" when it comes to the next refill.
