WellCare increased my premium, and at the same time increased my copay on a medically necessary drug by a factor of almost 10. My out-of-pocket cost for this drug went from $4 per month to $30 per month. Additionally, they dropped my non-narcotic migraine medicine from their formulary. When I called to ask what they suggested I take instead, they recommended that I take morphine for migraines. I do NOT need morphine for my headaches. However, they insisted that it was a reasonable substitute. I have to take a lot of medicine, and I have made a concerted effort to remain off of narcotics. They do not care at all about this, and stand by their suggestion that I take morphine (despite the fact that I do not need it).
Further, their customer service representatives are poorly trained and uninformed. They read from a script while speaking with callers, they are extremely slow. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to just get through the scripted questions about current address, phone, etc., etc. to even get a chance to ask a question. Then, they are unable to answer the simplest of questions without placing a caller on hold numerous times so they can check for more information from their supervisors. All customer service representatives have such deep accents that I was unable to understand what they said without having them spell words repeatedly.
This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with, and I will be dropping their coverage as soon as the open enrollment period opens. I cannot understand how a company with such deplorable ethics and performance manages to stay in business. I have to assume that their policy of unreasonable, sudden increases in copays pushes their profit margin high enough to keep them in business. So they unabashedly cheat their subscribers to make money for the company.
